Women Haven't Always Been Marrying in White at Wedding Day

In fact, in the grand scheme of things, the tradition isn't even all that old. The white wedding dress of today is deep-seated tradition, and for many is worn to signify virtue as well as uphold tradition. Millions - in fact billions - of women all over the world start thinking about the perfect white wedding gown before they have even found the perfect partner.

Britain is a place that is rife with traditions and legends, so it is little wonder that the tradition of the white wedding dress was started by the English Monarchy. It was the wedding of Queen Victoria that spawned the interest and popularity of white wedding dresses as we know them today.

Queen Victoria married Albert of Saxe in 1840, and wore what would then have been considered a flamboyant white gown. Of course, this did not start the tradition immediately; however, many women saw this as a statement of class and style, and copied the Queen by also getting married in white.

The white wedding dress in those days had nothing to do with being virtuous - it was all about wealth. Getting married in a white, extravagant gown was a sign that you could afford to buy a dress that you would never be able to wear again because of its style and color (whites were not easy to clean in those days as they are today!).

Of course, women still continued to be married in various colors and styles of dress - it was only the vain and the wealthy that insisted on white to follow in the footsteps of the wealthy Monarch. However, during Edwardian times, the white wedding dress once more soared to new heights of popularity, as Coco Chanel unveiled its new knee-length white wedding dress, complete with extravagant train.

Even so, with the depression that followed World War I and the approach of World War II, many women continued to make do with whatever type of dress they could afford, and this went on for decades. Some women would marry in simple white dresses, which could then be dyed and used as an everyday dress. Again, it was only the fabulously wealthy that could really afford to splurge on an elaborate gown.

However, from the 1950s onwards, as the world watched Hollywood stars, royalty and members of high society get wed in stunning white gowns, the tradition of white became signed and sealed.

Vintage Wedding Dress and Gowns

After posting more and more posts on different wedding gowns such as champagne wedding gowns, I decided to learn more about other wedding gowns available in the market.

I have always been puzzled over this term “vintage wedding dress”.

What does it really mean?

Is the dress old and ugly? Or is it out-dated and alien?

I did some research online and it seemed to me that if you are some usual bride with extraordinary taste, you may want to consider vintage wedding gowns.

Why is it so?

First of all, it is not going to be another similar wedding gown as your friend.

The second reason is its embroidery and fine worksmanship. I am sure if you really like your gown, you are going to fall in love with it too.

And again, the wedding gown is yours to design. Sometimes adding both conventional and vintage taste is going to create the wedding gown of your dream.

So “vintage” doesn’t necessary means “outdated” or “old”.

Personalized wedding favors. If you are getting married soon, you are probably trying to decide what type of favors you want to give out to your guests. Some people like to go with the traditional because these are easy to find and don’t need a lot of work. If you want something truly different, however, you might want to go in search of some unusual wedding favors to make your day a little more tailored to who you are. There are many great ideas out there, or you can come up with your own.

I went to a wedding once that definitely had personalized wedding favors. The couple had canned applesauce to give out to their guests. The applesauce was homemade by a family member, and was chosen because they had an October wedding. Where we live, October is a popular time for apples and other fall like items. These personalized wedding favors were absolutely perfect for their outdoor wedding high on the hill among the changing fall colors. Yet another friend gave out homemade and canned salsa.

Think of the things you love, and then do a search for favors and that hobby. You may or may not come up with something, but it is worth a shot. Even a search for personalized wedding favors plus the season (summer, spring, etc.) might yield some interesting results. If you are still striking out, go to your local craft stores and just look at the things you can buy. Some thing may come to you while you are browsing. You may even find ideas in Spencer’s or other specialty stores.

You can also think of your own personalized wedding favors if you think hard enough. If you are into gardening, perhaps you might want to give out pots of flowers. You can buy planters, fill them with soil, and add the seeds you want. You can then give out your personalized planters with instructions on how to water and take care of the plants. The ideas you can come up with for personalized wedding favors are limitless. If you can’t seem to come up with anything, give yourself a little time. Something will probably pop into your mind when you least expect it.

You may be the type of woman who fancies something different and can’t stand the thought of a formal, traditional wedding and all the issues that this brings with it. You have come to a decision and you want to get married on a beach, well I can’t blame you.
